  • December 19th, 2005, Culleoka and Mynders attended an Emergency Vehichle Opertion Course(EVOC). This course is now required by state law for all emergency personel who will operate vehichles in an emergency capacity. The class is required annually along with 2 hours of driver training. We have now completed half of that requirement for 2006, now we will individually train on each truck. Since this is a state law, no one will be able to drive any Culleoka Fire apparatus (in an emergency capacity) unless this class has been completed.
  • The Tanker has arrived, on December 10th the Grant committee went to Symrna, GA to pick up the Tanker. Jim Hester, manager of Fouts Brothers Fire Equipment, met us to swap a check for the keys. After a tutorial of the truck, we were on our way home to Culleoka. After mounting some equipment and hose, the tank was filled and the truck went in service on Friday, December 16th, 1005.
  • With a little luck and hard work, we have received another grant (2005). The Assistance
to Firefighters Grants through Fema has awarded The Culleoka Vol. Fire Dept.
with a $162,000 grant. Our part of that is a litle over $7500.00. We have ordered a
new Tanker that our dept. desperately needed. Our current tanker was not up to Osha
and NFPA standards, but now we will be able to safely transport needed water anywhere
    in the community and county.
  • We also received through a donation, a large Support/Rescue Truck. This truck will take the place of 2 trucks. It will be able to transport all Rescue Tools, as well as all other tools currently on our Support Truck. It has an enclosed area that can be used as a Command Post and Rehab area. This multi-purpose truck will serve our community well. It is currently not in service, but should be by early Spring of 2006.
  • Our Parking Lot also was enlarged in 2005. With the construction of the new school, lots of fill dirt was needed to be relocated. The department gladly accepted this fill dirt and rock so that we would have more parking. Hopefully, by mid 2006 we will have it covered with gravel for times of bad weather.
  • Much training occurred this 2005. Culleoka Firefighters enjoyed many events in which they learned the proper techniques to operate Pumps on Fire Apparatus, dangers in emergency vehicle driving, and the National Incident Management System (NIMS) which is required by FEMA. Numerous Firefighters previously completed (2004) Basic Fire Fighting from the Tennessee State Accademy, in which they learned basic techniques of firefighting and search and rescue, and participated in a live fire training. We also have several firefighters who have completed other courses as well, such as Hazard Materials Prevention, Community Emergency Reponse Team (CERT), and Incident Command System (ICS).
